It’s a big day: The Rectangle is officially a year old!
Or, well, close enough — the very first edition of this newsletter went out on October 7th 2022.
Since that initial post (which was about defending the humble printer) I’ve written a gamut of silly words about the even sillier tech world. It’s been a lot of fun — and I hope you’ve enjoyed the journey so far.
But I have something to ask you, dear reader
With The Rectangle a year old, it’s the perfect opportunity to drive some more subscribers — and it’d be awesome if you could help.
Maybe send a favourite newsletter to a friend? Suggest a colleague signs up? Or whack a post up on social media?
Whatever works for you, really, but I’d massively appreciate it. Here’s the link, if you’re that way inclined: www.therectangle.substack.com/

The future of The Rectangle
So… what’s next?
In the coming weeks, I’m planning on introducing a premium tier. But don’t worry, the version of The Rectangle you know and love will remain free.
I’m not a huge fan of locking content behind a paywall and want to keep my weekly essays open for everyone to read.
Instead, paying subscribers will receive a sort of ‘bulletin’ mail, that’ll share and provide commentary on news stories and tech trends — as well as some general recommendations to round things off.
As a freelance journalist, this newsletter swallows up a lot of my time and, you know, I do have to eat.
If you’re able, take the plunge to being a premium subscriber when that tier launches. It’s gonna be cool.
Most importantly though, thank you for reading!
Honestly, The Rectangle wouldn’t be worth doing without the lovely feedback I’ve received from so many of you.
If you have any ideas of things you’d like to see, general feedback, or ideas for the premium section of this newsletter, then please let me know.
It’s been a pleasure — and here’s to many more years of The Rectangle!
Much love,
Callum
