Oh, hello there beautiful people. How are you?
Over here at The Rectangle, it’s been a hectic couple of weeks. There are a few pieces cooking up in the kitchen, but they still need a bit more polishing. On top of that, I’ve been doing a lot of travelling, going from Amsterdam to London to Amsterdam to Newcastle in the past seven days alone.
With that (heavily localised) globetrotting in mind, it’s time for another “brb” post.
Inadvertently, these have become litte roundups of cool stuff, and could well be a fixture of The Rectangle for years to come.
Anyway, let’s dive in:
Want a good read? Hard Rain Falling by Don Carpenter is a book that’s really stuck with me. A gritty story about a young man stuck in a vicious criminal cycle, it’s a revelationary read I can’t believe I only recently came across.
I saw Sam Fender at St. James’ Park last night, so it’s an ideal time for you to listen to ‘Seventeen Going Under.’ It’s a nigh-perfect song from the Geordie Springsteen. That’s all I have to say on the matter.
Another band I’m currently excited about is Westside Cowboy. Their single ‘Shells’ is a gorgeous piece of country-infused indie pop.
Television-wise — and I’m almost ashamed to admit this —the new series of Rick & Morty is Good and I’m Enjoying It. The first episode of season 8 in particular (‘Summer of All Fears’) is great. I mean, anything with continual references to The Matrix is good for me.
On the topic of (almost) guilty pleasures, Baby Gravy 3 by BABY GRAVY is a boatload of fun. If you like light-hearted, alternative pop rap, give it a spin.
One of the best books I’ve read this year is A Sunny Place for Shady People, a collection of horror-infused, literary short stories by Mariana Enríquez. If any of those things sound appealing to you, then read the damn thing.
Enjoy, lovelies, and see you very soon.
