Hey there beautiful people!
I’m currently on holiday in Cyprus, taking a much-needed rest and unwind. Rather than leaving you hanging though, I thought I’d share a few cool things I’ve read/written/listened to/absorbed recently.
This New Yorker article about how language does (or doesn’t) alter how we think.
A deep dive into the Super Mario 64 speederunners trying to break the 120 star record.
Ahead of Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming movie, One Battle After Another, I read Vineland, the Thomas Pynchon novel it’s based on. It was, unsurprisingly, very good and very weird and quite long.
On the topic of novels, The Dog Stars is one of the best things I’ve read in a while. If you like post-apocalyptic stories, you’ll dig Peter Heller’s novel.
Yes… why shouldn’t Newcastle United win next season’s Premier League?
Speaking of football, give my piece about how FC 25 (AKA FIFA) is a digital version of Beanie Babies.
Go and listen to Blonde Redhead’s 2004 masterpiece, Misery Is A Butterfly. It’s what I’ve been doing a lot of.
There you have it gorgeous folks, a few Cool Things to entertain you until The Rectangle is back next week to do it properly.
Anyway, I’ve got some sunbathing and reading to do, chat soon!
Cal, lovin MIAB! The title track belongs on the closing credits of a Tarantino movie, a la Shivaree's classic closer with the credits of Kill Bill 2, "Goodnight Moon". Wow! Classic. Thanks.
